2011 Workshop Schedule coming soon!

Happy New Year to my Felting Friends around the globe, I am tightening up my 2011 Felting Schedule, and would love to hear back from those of you who are looking for a specific class this coming year, what class would you like to take?  I am trying my hand at internet video classes and am doing a private class in January.  As we work on this project, and I better understand how the technology works, I would love to offer on-line courses as a regular part of my course work, please feel free to leave me comments here or e-mail directly at Nicole@FestiveFibers.com

My Intern's project continues...

As young Miss Chloe Walier finishes her internship for HS credit, her final project is about a day away from completion.  Her next step once the design, which is a cape, is dry will be a photo shoot, which she will up-load onto Facebook.  This whole project was initially for Chloe to learn how to make felt, but as the days grew, we adapted an approved course for her to get a Tech credit for HS.  The Tech part is documenting the journey, and communicating it through on-line, multi media.  I have been posting photos on my Festive Fibers page on Facebook, and a few here, but if you are able to, her on-line Final Review is Jan. 2, all day on her personal page, the invite is this link

I have been privileged to mentor her though this part of her journey, and am impressed with our regional HS that creates such opportunities for alternative learning.  Here Here Fall Mountain Regional HS!

If you are not on my Festive Fibers page on Facebook yet, check it out.

This last photo is showing us removing the resist inside the cape, we left the hood resist is a bit longer....more pictures to come!

Festive Fibers at a Local Crafts Fair

Hi All, I am excited to be in a local craft fair this coming weekend run by a small and beautiful preschool called The Orchard School.  The show is being held in the Walpole Town Hall in Walpole, NH this Saturday 9:30 - 4:00.  I am looking forward to participating in this event, and hope I see a few of you there.  I'll be showing my scarves and other small felted gift items.  If you can't shop there in person, have fun shopping virtually in my Etsy Shop

Shop Festive Fibers virtually this year

Couldn't make it to the Studio Sale?  I have been putting the delicious colorful felt Scarves up on line in my Festive Fibers Etsy Shop.  What is Esty?  It is a place where you can visit, shop and make purchases for your holiday gift giving, it's pretty cool.  If you haven't visited my shop yet, try it.  Purchases can be made using most charge cards as well as Paypal.  So as you visit my Etsy shop imagine you have driven to rural and beautiful South Western New Hampshire, as everyone came into my studio this year they noticed the crazy purple berries on the bushes next to my drive in front of the studio, a bush called Beauty Berry.  Well if my purple berries can wow people, then come on in!

I had nice music playing, yes holiday music, my favorite is On-Line streaming so I listen to so much, and I love AOL Radio, so had their Christmas Jazz Station playing, with a pot of mulled apple cider going in the crock pot.  Have fun and I hope to see you on Etsy.

Studio Sale Today - Doors Are Now Open!

Today is the second annual Holiday Open Studio Sale I have done here in Alstead.  And again I am partnering with my very good friend and jewelry maker Maggie Garatoni.

I will have predominantly scarves for sale.  I have a large collection of very colorful (what else?) scarves, patterned felted and shibori dyed.  Here are a few photos of my young and beautiful studio apprentice modeling some of the goodies.  If you are in the neighborhood, call for directions to the studio (603) 835-2247

Inspiring Kaffe Fassett

Kaffe Fassett says it best about how he observes pattern and why travel is such a big trigger for inspiration, (It is definitely making my travel bug begin to itch!) have a listen...

Custom Toy Box

So here goes!  I am just starting the design for a custom felt covered TOY BOX!!  Too Cute!
More photos to come, as I develop the design out more, and it still needs some color.  The top is the piece with the 3 yellow flowers, the front and back are the long pieces, and I am probably going to do bright pink for one side panel and turquoise for the other, totally funky pattern, with a little bit of flowers.

mouse in the house!

This is what happens in my mind when I find a cheese dish at an antique store, and then a hand full a acorn caps!  He is so goofy!  Someone said he reminds them of Topo Gigo from the Ed Sullivan Show and someone else Ratatouille...though I will make another for her with a chef hat!  Happy Fall!
