A visit to Longwood Gardens

We went to summery New Jersey for Easter, and on Monday decided to visit a favorite in the Telaar house, Longwood Gardens.  The weather was beautiful - mid eighties, and sunny.  The gardens were stunning.  I have been there before but never this time of year.  The following photos are instead of a note book and sketching...but I will get out my paints for sure now that I am home.

Paul Signac

Each touch, taken pure from the palette, remains pure upon the canvas - Paul Signac

In the winter world of New Hampshire, now covered in a couple feet of snow, skies so clear blue ground so bright white, I find this absence of color opens the door for inspiration and creativity.  Less is the distraction from my gardens, (though I plan on going out back and inspecting some animal tracks later) and more is the sparkle of a dream, of color.  Today's artist's quote from my Year in Art: a masterpiece a day calendar displays Paul Signac on my desk, compels me to remind myself what his style was, and dredge from my memory of art classes with the help of the internet how colorful his world was.

Festive Fibers in Print

The Jan/Feb Issue of New Hampshire HOME is on the stands and I am so excited to be included in a home shoot.  Earlier last year I worked on a custom fabric order, for a set of pillows.  I was contacted by Lee Perrault of Via Design (I've written about Lee before)  we are birds of a colorful feather, and she was very excited that one of her clients loved my work and agreed to have pillows made.  For those of you unable to get he paper copy, NH HOME just put the current issue on-line, you can breeze through pages until you get to pps 60-61 where the pillows are pictured.  The feature article is titled "A Perennially Adaptable Home".
I thought I'd include photos again of my process with Lee, and you can check the final product!  Enjoy.

Festive Fibers at a Local Crafts Fair

Hi All, I am excited to be in a local craft fair this coming weekend run by a small and beautiful preschool called The Orchard School.  The show is being held in the Walpole Town Hall in Walpole, NH this Saturday 9:30 - 4:00.  I am looking forward to participating in this event, and hope I see a few of you there.  I'll be showing my scarves and other small felted gift items.  If you can't shop there in person, have fun shopping virtually in my Etsy Shop.

Inspiring Kaffe Fassett

Kaffe Fassett says it best about how he observes pattern and why travel is such a big trigger for inspiration, (It is definitely making my travel bug begin to itch!) have a listen...
